New approaches for micropropagation and cryopreservation of Agave peacockii, an endangered species

More than 50% out of 129 Agave species are endemic to Mexico. Among them, peacockii is among the list threatened that require special protection. In this work, we aimed at developing new supplementary strategies achieve micropropagation and perform cryopreservation in vitro grown shoot-tips A. peacockii. For multiplication, addition two cytokinins, 6-benzylaminopurine (26.6 μM) kinetin (27.84 MS semisolid medium significantly favoured morphogenetic response produced highest (87.00 ± 17.18) shoot generation number after 60 days culture. This interaction was more effective using same growth regulators separately.
